Lukoil’s NORSI refinery knocked offline after Easter drone strike

Ukrainian drone strikes have shut a major Lukoil
refinery and are unlikely to allow it to resume operations before the end
of April, Reuters reported
on April 7, citing sources in Russia’s oil industry.
The refinery, Lukoil-Nizhegorodnaftoorgsintez (NORSI), is the country’s fourth largest by overall size and the second largest producer of gasoline. Reuters said the plant stopped after the strikes and that its temporary closure “will add further uncertainty to Russia’s energy sector,” which has already been hit by repeated attacks on export infrastructure.
Nizhny Novgorod regional governor Gleb Nikitin said the drone attack struck two refinery facilities and damaged a power plant and several houses.
Data from the St. Petersburg International Commodity Exchange showed Lukoil had not put gasoline, diesel, or fuel oil from the refinery up for sale. Lukoil did not respond to a Reuters request for comment.
The NORSI refinery can process about 16 million tons of crude
a year, the report added.
