Russia hits Ukrainian oil and gas facilities for third straight day

Russia has attacked companies belonging to the Naftogaz Group for a third consecutive day, targeting facilities in eastern, western and central Ukraine, the company said on Telegram on Aug. 9.
“Specifically, overnight on Aug. 9, Ukrnafta production assets and one of the company’s drilling sites came under a massive attack,” Naftogaz said.
Russian forces used dozens of attack drones against Ukraine’s extractive industry, causing extensive damage and disabling part of the equipment, which forced the affected asset to suspend operations.
Naftogaz said employees at the targeted facilities were not injured because of safety measures put in place before the attack.
Seven Ukrnafta gas station complexes in Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhya and Mykolaiv oblasts were also targeted by Russian drones on Aug. 7 and 8.
One gas station employee was injured in one of the attacks and is currently hospitalized, the company said.
Russian forces also struck Naftogaz production facilities in central Ukraine with jet-powered drones on Aug. 8.
The facility sustained serious damage, while its personnel were in shelters at the time of the attack.
“The intensity of enemy attacks on oil and gas infrastructure has increased significantly in recent days,” acting Naftogaz CEO Serhii Fedorenko said.
“It is obvious that the enemy’s goal is to inflict maximum damage on Ukrainian production and other critical infrastructure in order to disrupt preparations for the heating season.”
“Our priority is to protect people’s lives and continue operating even under such difficult circumstances,” Fedorenko added.
