Russian drone crews have sharply increased activity along the Sloviansk–Izium highway in recent days, destroying about 10 vehicles in the past 24 hours, the DeepState monitoring project and Izium city council member Maksym Strelnyk reported on Sept. 5.
The area around the village of Karpivka has been hit especially hard, where Russian forces set fire to a civilian bus.
“It’s not new that the enemy can strike more than 25 kilometers from the line of contact, but these incidents are a troubling signal of danger in this area,” DeepState analysts wrote. “The enemy exploited the geography of the road, finding opportunities to strike from higher elevations where drones can operate more easily.”
Military officials urged civilians and volunteers to take the heightened threat into account when planning routes.
“Last night alone, the Russians struck several cars,” Strelnyk said. “Because of this, it is strongly advised not to travel this route after sunset unless absolutely necessary, and to seek alternative roads whenever possible.”
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
