Russian missile strike on Poltava kills three, injures ten

On Saturday, Feb. 1, a Russian missile strike hit a residential apartment building in Poltava, killing three people and injuring ten others, including a child.

10:17 a.m. – Acting head of the Poltava Oblast Military Administration, Volodymyr Kohut, confirmed that three people were killed in the attack. Rescue operations are ongoing at the site of the strike.

9:33 a.m. – The death toll from the missile strike on the apartment building in Poltava has risen to three, with ten people injured, including a child, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES).

9:10 a.m. – Initial reports from the SES stated that two people had been killed and seven injured, including a child. Emergency responders managed to rescue 21 people from the damaged building.

Damage and rescue efforts

The strike destroyed a section of the building from the first to the fifth floor, sparking a fire. Nearby buildings and 12 vehicles were also damaged.

According to the Poltava Oblast Military Administration, emergency responders and rescue teams are on-site, working to clear debris and assist victims. Authorities are still verifying casualty numbers and assessing the full extent of the damage.

Energy infrastructure targeted

Beyond the attack on the residential area, Russian forces also struck energy infrastructure in the Myrhorod district. As a result, 164 households and one business have been left without power.

Nationwide air raid alerts and additional strikes

Early on Feb. 1, air raid sirens sounded across all Ukrainian regions due to an incoming missile threat. Monitoring channels reported the launch of missiles from Tu-22M3 bombers. Explosions were heard in Poltava and Khmelnytskyi.

Ukraine’s energy company, Ukrenergo, announced emergency power outages in seven oblasts as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, in Kharkiv Oblast, Russian attacks hit targets in Kharkiv and Berestove districts. In Kharkiv city, one person was killed in the shelling.
