Russian infantry groups are probing Ukrainian defense in northern Kharkiv Oblast in an attempt to breach the border and infiltrate Vovchansk from the north, Hart Brigade Press Officer Senior Lieutenant Oleksandr Danylenko told Espreso TV on Aug. 21.
He emphasized that Russian forces are attempting to penetrate the state border from multiple directions simultaneously.
"The enemy is infiltrating from all sides across the state border of Ukraine. They are attempting to penetrate from various axes and seize new sectors of our territory, Ukrainian land," Danylenko explained.
"Here and there, they are trying to identify weak spots, wedge themselves into our defense, and capture our positions."
Ukrainian defense units are actively detecting these assault groups and neutralizing them alongside their combat equipment, he added.
"We are doing everything possible to prevent the enemy from crawling across our land," the officer noted.
In April 2026, Ukrainian Defense Forces regained control of several streets in Vovchansk and improved their tactical footprint in the area. However, the majority of the town remains under Russian occupation.
According to DeepState mapping data, Russian forces currently control approximately 70% to 75% of Vovchansk's territory and are massing manpower in an effort to intensify frontline pressure.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
