The Battle for the Dobropillia Sector

On Sept. 26, Ukraine's 1st Corps Azov formally announced that the city of Dobropillia in Donetsk Oblast remains under the firm control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Statements issued by the Russian Ministry of Defense claiming that Ukrainian units had been encircled inside the city were entirely fabricated.

Both the village of Dobropillia and the city of Dobropillia are located within Pokrovsk district, situated roughly seven kilometers apart.

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) also refuted Russian claims of an encirclement around Dobropillia, assessing that the closest Russian forward lines were held roughly 10.2 kilometers from the city limits. Analysts evaluated that Moscow propagated false encirclement claims to deflect attention from successful Ukrainian counter-operations near Lyman.

"Duffy," an officer serving with the National Guard of Ukraine’s 12th Azov Brigade, reiterated in an interview with Radio NV that Russian claims regarding the tactical encirclement of Dobropillia were completely false.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.

For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
