The 13th Khartiia Brigade of Ukraine’s National Guard repelled a Russian assault attempt in Kharkiv Oblast's Liptsi sector, killing about 70 Russian soldiers, the military wrote on Jan. 15.

Khartiia stressed that Russian forces continue to pressure Ukrainian defenders in Kharkiv Oblast, carrying out repeated assault attempts north of the city. However, the Brigade successfully repelled all enemy attacks over the past week.

Khartiia wrote that the Russian assault failed thanks to coordinated actions by infantry units, UAV operators, artillery crews, and other brigade elements.

“We continue to defend Kharkiv Oblast. We continue to keep Kharkiv locked,” the brigade said.

On Jan. 12, fighters of Khartiia’s 2nd National Guard Corps took control of the Kupyansk city council building and raised the Ukrainian flag over it.

The Brigade reported that after the successful operation, the final phase of clearing Russian forces from the city is ongoing.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.

For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
