Ukraine’s SBU security service has struck a major SIGINT (signals intelligence) facility operated by Russia’s FSB in Krasnodar Krai, the SBU announced on May 29.

According to the SBU, the facility in the Temryuksky District was used by Russian forces to guide missiles and drones against Ukraine and to intercept signals from foreign satellite systems. Initial assessments indicate the SBU’s drone attack disabled key elements of the center’s infrastructure.

The SBU said such operations have strategic importance because they weaken Russia’s ability to control airspace, coordinate air defenses and steer strikes against Ukraine. Hitting similar facilities also complicates protection of Russian military targets deep in the rear.
