Ukraine intercepts 78 drones during massive Russian attack
On the night of Jan. 12–13, Russia launched a massive drone attack on Ukraine, deploying 110 Shahed drones and other decoy UAVs. Ukraine's Air Force reported that air defense units successfully intercepted 78 targets, while 31 others were lost on radar.
According to the Air Force, Russian forces launched drones of various types from Millerovo, Oryol, Bryansk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia. The assault was countered by Ukrainian aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups of the Air Force and Defense Forces.
Ukrainian air defense downed enemy drones across Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhya, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyy, and Donetsk oblasts.
“Falling debris from destroyed enemy drones caused damage to buildings, private homes, state institutions, and vehicles in Sumy, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, and Zaporizhzhya oblasts. No casualties or injuries have been reported so far,” the Air Force said.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
