Ukraine’s Eastern Group denies Russian troops entered Myrnohrad

Ukraine’s Eastern Group of Forces denied on Oct. 29 that Russian troops are present in the city of Myrnohrad, Donetsk Oblast, clarifying that its spokesperson had misspoken during a live television broadcast.
The group said the situation in and around Myrnohrad remains fully under the control of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
Officials explained that Eastern Group spokesperson Hryhorii Shapoval had mistakenly mentioned Myrnohrad while speaking about nearby Pokrovsk during the national telethon United News.
“Please take this clarification into account when reporting on developments in the combat zones,” the group said in a statement.
On Oct. 28, Shapoval had stated that Russian troops had broken through defenses on the outskirts of Myrnohrad, where heavy street fighting was allegedly taking place.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported on Oct. 29 that while Russian advances near Myrnohrad and Pokrovsk are narrowing the “pocket” in which Ukrainian troops are positioned, they are unlikely to cause a collapse of Ukraine’s defenses in the area or lead to Russia capturing Pokrovsk by mid-November, as Moscow reportedly hopes.
The independent analytical project DeepState said that Russian forces have disrupted Ukrainian logistics toward Myrnohrad and across the broader agglomeration.
It added that the situation in Pokrovsk “is on the verge of critical and continues to deteriorate,” noting that hundreds of Russian troops have infiltrated the city and are pushing deeper into urban areas.
