A video circulating widely on Sept. 29 shows Kyiv rescuers sitting on the floor in full protective gear as they take a brief rest between responses to Russian attacks on the Ukrainian capital.
The touching footage was shared on Threads by a Kyiv firefighter using the handle @powerful_fire_kyiv.
“A little tired, but unbroken,” the firefighter captioned the video.
The clip has received more than 193,000 views and 30,000 likes. Hundreds of users thanked the rescuers for their work and urged them to stay safe.
“I don’t know how they are still holding on after all the horrors they have seen and experienced. I just wish all rescuers strength,” one user wrote.
“I don’t understand how you manage all of this mentally and physically. Deep respect,” another commenter, Lena, wrote.
“People we couldn’t live without! Thank you,” Anna added.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service published another striking image of firefighters on Sept. 27, showing exhausted rescuers resting in a shelter between emergency responses during Russian attacks on Kyiv.
“A few minutes of silence. A shelter. Distant sounds of explosions. Rescuers, fully prepared, are waiting until it is safe to go outside. Above them is Kyiv, which the Russians attack again and again,” the agency wrote.
Russian forces have continued frequent missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv.
Overnight into Sept. 29, beginning at 6 p.m. the previous evening, Russia attacked Ukraine with one Zircon/Onyx anti-ship missile, two Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles and 152 Shahed, Gerbera and Parodiya drones, including 82 jet-powered Shaheds, Ukraine’s Air Force reported.
As of 8 a.m., Ukrainian air defenses had shot down or suppressed 109 targets: the anti-ship missile, both ballistic missiles and 106 drones.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
