Ukraine repatriates another 1,000 bodies for forensic identification

The remains of another 1,000 individuals, including Ukrainian soldiers, were returned to Ukraine, Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War reported on July 17.

It was clarified that the remains include both civilians and soldiers.

"Law enforcement investigators, together with forensic experts from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, will carry out all necessary examinations and identifications of the repatriated bodies," the statement said.

On the Russian side, only 19 bodies were returned, according to Vladimir Medinsky, aide to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

On June 15, Ukraine received the remains of 1,200 individuals who, according to Russian authorities, were Ukrainian citizens, including soldiers.

Another 1,200 bodies were repatriated on June 14 and again on June 13. Before that, on June 11, Ukraine received the remains of 1,212 fallen citizens.
