Remarkably, the operation resulted in Russian troops being taken prisoner - without infantry, without losses, but with 100% effectiveness.
The enemy fortifications were first hit with FPV drones and ground-based kamikaze robots. As another robot approached a destroyed dugout, the Russian troops — to avoid being blown up — surrendered.
According to the soldiers, the surviving enemy troops were escorted to Ukrainian positions and taken captive.
A video released by the brigade shows the first confirmed successful assault in modern warfare carried out exclusively by unmanned platforms.
The operation was carried out by the kamikaze ground robotics unit NC13 from the DEUS EX MACHINA drone company of the 2nd Assault Battalion.
The positions, which had previously withstood two assaults by neighboring units, were captured thanks to the precise offensive tactics executed by the brigade’s robotic force. Ukrainian troops secured the cleared fortifications and forest line.
On June 16, the Ukrainian General Staff announced that the Kharkiv operational direction had been renamed the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction.
On June 27, Deputy Commander of the 3rd Assault Brigade Maksym Zhorin said that Russian forces were continuing active offensive operations in the Kharkiv sector. He added that the summer and autumn months will be difficult.
According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) report on June 22, Russian forces are conducting intense combat operations across much of the frontline in Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, and Zaporizhzhya oblasts.
On July 5, AFU Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi visited the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction in Kharkiv Oblast and warned of the threat of new Russian offensives.
“The Russians are trying to overwhelm us with sheer numbers, but we must remain alert and apply effective tactical and technological solutions to prevent their advance,” he said.
