Five missing after detonations at Khmelnytskyi training range

Several service members were injured and five are missing after a series of ordnance detonations at a military training range in Khmelnytskyi, Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces said on July 31.

The Prosecutor General’s Office said that it has opened a criminal investigation into the incident.

According to preliminary information, the incident occurred about 11:55 a.m. Four service members were injured and hospitalized; the severity of their injuries is being determined. The office said several other service members who were at the site are currently unaccounted for and their whereabouts are being verified.

Law enforcement has begun questioning commanders and service members of the affected unit. A scene inspection and initial investigative actions will be carried out after the detonation stops and safe access to the range is secured.

The State Bureau of Investigation is also conducting a pretrial probe into the detonation at the range.
