Upon detection, preparations began to launch combat aircraft, and an air raid alert was issued in Tulcea County (bordering Ukraine's Odesa Oblast). However, radar contact with the object was lost within five minutes at 9:09 p.m., roughly six kilometers inside Romanian territory.
“Although combat aircraft were ready for intervention within the stipulated response time, the situation did not require their deployment," the officials wrote.
"There is no information indicating any impact on Romanian territory.”
Romania’s defense forces and NATO continue to monitor airspace and are prepared to act if necessary.
Meanwhile, in the early hours of Dec. 27, Russia launched another drone attack on Ukraine. Ukrainian Air Defense Forces reported intercepting 13 of the 24 drones, while the remaining 11 failed to reach their targets.
