Russian forces are exerting significant effort to capture the town of Selydove near Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast, Andriy Kovalenko, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council said on Oct. 24.

"There will be videos from them (Russians) with their flags," according to the official.

"However, as of now, the battle for the town continues," Kovalenko stated.

Bild analyst Julian Röpcke reported earlier that the Russian troops had started hanging their flags in Selydove.

Situation in Selydove

According to Ukrainian defenders, fighting is already taking place on the streets of the settlement, with the aggressor "entering in whole platoons." FPV drone crews are making over 100 sorties per day, targeting enemy infantry.

"Prisoners who were interrogated said that fresh reserves had arrived, who were sent to capture what had been reported as 'already captured,' so the pressure will continue in the coming days," commander of the platoon of the 24th Aidar Separate Assault Brigade Stanislav Bunyatov said in his Telegram channel "Hovoryat Snayper +".

Analysts from the U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War said in their Oct. 23 report that Russia had achieved certain tactical successes in capturing the town of Selydove and adjacent territories in Donetsk Oblast.

However, the concentration of Russian forces in the southern section significantly slows down their possible advance towards Pokrovsk, which slows down progress on this front.
