"One of the latest deterrence arguments and theses is the return of non-strategic nuclear weapons to the territory of our country," he said.
"We have learned how to handle these weapons. We know how to use them with confidence. We can do it. And you can be sure that we will do it if the sovereignty and independence of our country is threatened."
He also mentioned that Belarus will become a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in a few days, alleging that Poland is trying to prevent this or disrupt the progress made.
Muraveika accused Warsaw of provoking and initiating the crisis on the Belarusian-Polish border, leading to the influx of illegal migrants from Belarus to Poland.
"This crisis has been provoked by Poland. This crisis was initiated by Poland," he said, claiming that evidence had emerged pointing to the "sale of visas to migrants," with "a dozen people already under investigation by the prosecutor's office."
This follows an earlier report by BELTA on June 29 of an alleged "tense" and escalating situation on the border between Belarus and Ukraine.
A coalition of Western countries has reportedly "unleashed a hot conflict" near Belarus, and Minsk is "doing everything to maintain peace on Belarusian soil," said Vadim Lukashevich, the deputy commander of the country's special operations forces.
The Belarusian Armed Forces are reportedly concerned about the increase in Ukrainian "troops, weapons, and military equipment" near the border, along with the alleged deployment of additional air defense systems and equipment near Ukraine’s Zhytomyr Oblast.
Andriy Kovalenko, head of the National Security and Defense Council's Center for Countering Disinformation, believes Minsk's statements are part of a Russian information operation. He claims that Russian "military correspondents" are accusing Kyiv of allegedly "preparing an attack on Belarus." The real threat, however, comes from Russian subversive groups in Belarus.
Earlier, on June 21, Belarus declared the start of a sudden check to assess the readiness of its Armed Forces units and formations to carry out their assigned tasks.
This does not pose a threat to Ukraine, according to SBGS spokesperson Andriy Demchenko.
