“As Canada begins its G7 presidency, my first official call was with Andriy Sybiha. Ukraine remains a priority for the G7,” Joly wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “We discussed the current situation and future needs. Canada will always be a strong ally of Ukraine.”
Sybiha also shared details of the conversation, highlighting Ukraine and Canada’s achievements in 2024, the situation on the front lines, Ukraine’s defense needs, and key international events planned for the near future.
“I spoke with Mélanie Joly about the significant progress in Ukrainian-Canadian partnership in 2024, the situation at the front, our defense needs, and major international events ahead,” Sybiha posted on X. “I’m grateful for Canada’s confirmation that Ukraine will be a priority during its G7 presidency in 2025.”
Canada officially assumed the G7 presidency on Jan. 1, 2025, taking over from Italy as part of the group’s rotating leadership.
