The key theme of the G7 foreign ministers’ meeting in Canada will be continued support for Ukraine, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand said, Ukrinform reported on Nov. 12.

She made the remarks ahead of the gathering.

“We will start tomorrow with a meeting with Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha to reaffirm our collective support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression,” Anand said.

After meeting the Ukrainian delegation, the G7 ministers — joined by invited partners — will discuss critical minerals, energy security, and economic resilience. They will also take up issues related to achieving lasting peace in the Middle East, supporting security and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific, and responding to humanitarian crises in Sudan and Haiti.

“Global partnerships are essential to address global challenges," Anand highlighted.

"The problems we face go beyond the Group of Seven and our borders. That’s why broad geographic representation at the table matters.”

Anand earlier announced that Canada is accelerating the disbursement of the final $70 million to Ukraine’s Energy Support Fund. Of that, $10 million was sent ahead of schedule to help repair energy infrastructure damaged by Russian strikes.

On the eve of the meeting, G7 energy and environment ministers in Toronto condemned Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s power system and pledged continued support to meet Ukraine’s energy needs.
