He further highlighted that while Trump may demand greater contributions to European security, an abrupt cessation of American support is unlikely.

“We don’t know how U.S. aid to Ukraine will proceed, but it won’t be as simple as Donald Trump flipping a switch and leaving Ukraine with nothing the next day,” Lipavský said.

He remains optimistic despite what he called the ambiguous rhetoric from Trump and Republican leaders regarding Ukraine.

Trump’s approach to China, Iran, the Middle East, and North Korea suggests that Russia is also part of his "global security equation", Lipavský added.

Trump’s Peace Talks Plan

On Nov. 11, Associated Press reported that Trump intends to facilitate peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine within the first days of his presidency. His spokesperson announced that Trump would focus on brokering a peace deal to end the war, beginning with bringing both parties to the table.

Reports also suggested that Trump recently urged Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to avoid further escalation in Ukraine, highlighting Washington’s strong military presence in Europe.

However, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov denied any phone call between Trump and Putin, claiming no concrete plans for these talks exist.
