Shahed drone strike on Sumy: 4 dead, 9 injured, including a child

A Russian Shahed drone hit a residential building in Sumy, resulting in four fatalities and nine injuries, including a seven-year-old child, Suspilne Sumy broadcaster reported on Jan. 30.

Five people, including a child, were hospitalized, with three in critical condition.

Ukraine's State Emergency Service (SES) and Sumy officials reported the attack consequences:

  • Nine apartments and 12 balconies destroyed.
  • 20 vehicles damaged.
  • Over 80 windows and balconies shattered.

 Emergency workers are now dismantling large concrete slabs at the impact site.

The rescuers released new photos showing the collapse of multiple floors due to the drone strike.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, calling it a "horrific tragedy" and urging the world to maintain pressure on Russia for its continued terror.

Sumy authorities have declared Jan. 30 and 31 as official days of mourning in honor of the victims.

The city has been under near-daily Russian assaults. On Jan. 27, another Shahed drone strike targeted Sumy and the nearby village of Pishchane, damaging non-residential buildings and infrastructure.
