Ukrainian museums in Dnipro and Kherson rank among top 25 most influential globally

700+ cultural organizations competed for a spot in the ranking of the most active and influential GLAM institutions (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums). Ultimately, only 83 cultural institutions were selected for inclusion.

The evaluation criteria measure an institution's ability to mobilize audiences, distribute cultural content, and engage communities in conversations surrounding art. Shovkunenko Art Museum in Kherson placed 24th overall, advancing significantly from last year's ranking where it held 83rd place among 152 institutions.

"This is an incredible result for a Ukrainian museum operating under complex conditions. For comparison, we surpassed numerous renowned European and international institutions… [The museum] demonstrates resilience and strength of Ukrainian cultural diplomacy even during wartime. The museum actively shares its unique collection with the world, highlighting the story of its looting during occupation, ongoing efforts to recover stolen artifacts, and joint initiatives with Ukrainian museums and international partner institutions," representatives of the museum stated.

Yavornytskyi National Historical Museum in Dnipro secured fourth place globally in the 2026 MuseumWeek rankings. Representatives of the Kherson Art Museum congratulated their colleagues on the achievement, noting that only two Ukrainian museums made the international GLAM list this year.

MuseumWeek is a global festival for cultural institutions, established in France in 2014 on the initiative of major Paris museums, including the Louvre and the Centre Pompidou. Since 2016, the initiative has operated under the patronage of UNESCO. This year's event took place from June 1 to June 7 under the slogan "Intelligence, Museums, Future."
