Drone strike ignites fire at key Russian oil refinery in Saratov

The Russian city of Saratov came under drone attack overnight, with local reports indicating that a fire broke out at an oil refinery, Russian Telegram channel Astra wrote on Feb. 11.

Explosions were heard near a major fuel processing facility.

Saratov Oblast Governor Roman Busargin confirmed that a drone strike caused damage to an industrial facility, though he did not specify which one.

"Air defense forces neutralized a UAV," he wrote.

"There is damage to an industrial site in Saratov. Emergency crews are operating at potential debris impact locations. There are no reported casualties."

Andrii Kovalenko, head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), confirmed the attack on the Saratov oil refinery early on Feb. 11.

"This is not the first strike," he said.

"The Saratov oil refinery is one of Russia’s key fuel infrastructure facilities, with an annual processing capacity of 7 million tons of oil."

Earlier, reports emerged of a drone strike on Engels, home to a Russian military airbase. Russian Telegram channels wrote about at least 11 explosions over the city.

Kovalenko also confirmed the strike on Engels, marking another high-profile UAV attack deep inside Russian territory.
