Drones targeted the Kirovske airbase in Russian-occupied Crimea overnight on June 28, reportedly destroying an ammunition depot and air defense assets, according to the Crimean Wind monitoring group, which cited satellite imagery.

Several explosions were heard in the area during the night, with local residents reporting drone activity and Russian air defenses engaging aerial targets.

Crimean Wind published video footage showing a fire and a series of detonations near the airfield. At least one helicopter and several Su-series fighter jets may also have been hit.

NASA satellite imagery appears to confirm multiple fire outbreaks at the site.

Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed it had “destroyed” 10 drones over occupied Crimea during the night and morning of June 28.

The Kirovske airbase, located in eastern Crimea, falls under the jurisdiction of the Chkalov State Flight Test Center of Russia’s Defense Ministry (military unit 3865).

The airbase has been targeted multiple times since the beginning of 2024.
