Local residents witnessed a series of detonations and a fire at the site.
Telegram channels first reported the incident, and official sources later confirmed it.
Eyewitnesses said the industrial site was hit by at least ten explosions, after which a large glow was visible above the plant. Videos circulating online show the moment of impact and the distinct sounds of the blasts.
Emergency services have been dispatched to the area, response efforts are underway.
Tula Oblast governor Dmitry Milyayev claimed that Oblast came under drone attacks throughout the previous day. He warned of a possible attack already on the evening of Dec. 23.
Yefremov Synthetic Rubber Plant is one of Russia’s key producers of synthetic rubber and high-molecular polyisobutylene, used in both chemical and defense industries. Russian sources noted the plant has struggled with declining profits and reduced demand in recent years.
This is not the first strike on critical infrastructure in Tula Oblast.
In May 2025, a drone attack ignited a fire at the Azot chemical plant.
