Kazan, Sochi, and Astrakhan airports temporarily suspended all flights, Russian media outlet Astra wrote, citing Rosaviatsiya representative Artem Korenyako on Dec. 27.

This follows similar restrictions previously imposed on airports in Moscow and Kaluga due to the perceived threat of drone attacks.

The Russian Defense Ministry claimed to have intercepted multiple drones overnight, including:

  • 5 drones over Bryansk Oblast
  • 3 drones over Kursk Oblast
  • 2 drones each over Belgorod and Tula oblasts
  • 1 drone over Astrakhan Oblast.

Airport closures in Russia

This latest closure took place on Dec. 26, when major Moscow airports — Vnukovo, Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo, Zhukovsky — and Kaluga’s airport faced similar flight restrictions.

On the same day, 27 flights were delayed across Moscow’s major airports, adding to the growing disruption of air travel within Russia.
