Military expert explains Russia’s 'breakthrough' near Dobropillia and risks for Defense Forces, Kostiantynivka, Pokrovsk

The enemy struck at the junction of two brigades. This is a standard situation: where there is a junction, there can be problems with coordination between brigades. They found a weak point and broke through.

So far, this breakthrough is being carried out by relatively small forces. Different sources report different numbers, but there are accounts of several dozen fighters who managed to enter and gain a foothold. They have entered three or four villages.

The development is very troubling for us. If they secure positions there, it means they have passed through the defensive line. Our fortifications will become their fortifications, and we will have to dislodge them.

Driving the enemy out of fortifications is very difficult. It requires artillery and a large number of troops.

If they gain a foothold, it poses a threat to Dobropillia. Dobropillia is located between Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka, and this would be a threat to both cities.

This development is very unhealthy. If they enter Dobropillia, it will greatly complicate logistics in entire Oblast. It would mean urgently restructuring logistics, finding dirt roads and other routes — a much more complicated task.

I hope there will be a very quick reaction — the counterattack that we often like to talk about. This is exactly the case when the enemy has not yet entrenched itself and there is still a chance to strike and push them back. I hope the reserves mentioned in discussions with the Operational Command Dnipro will do this and be able to repel the attack.

At present, both we and the enemy have seen significant evolution in drone capabilities, especially with fiber-optic drones. The threat range is already up to 15 kilometers, and in some cases 20 kilometers. This poses a serious danger to logistics.

That is why I say there will be an urgent need to restructure logistics in Oblast, and it will be very difficult to do it quickly. This is a serious threat to the area.
