Azot chemical plant, which belongs to the EuroChem group — one of the world's largest producers of mineral fertilizers — is located in the city. The plant is capable of producing over 1 million tons of ammonia and up to 1.4 million tons of ammonium nitrate. It supplies several enterprises within the Russian military-industrial complex.

Drones earlier attacked the chemical plant overnight on March 13. Prior to this, the facility suffered attacks in January 2026, as well as in December and August 2025.

Air defenses "intercepted and destroyed" 28 drones over Stavropol Krai overnight, Russian Defense Ministry stated.
