Russian attacks knock out power to thousands in Sumy Oblast

Russian strikes on critical infrastructure in Sumy Oblast left two districts without power, regional energy provider Sumyoblenergo reported on the evening of Oct. 1.

The attacks knocked out electricity in Kono­t­op district (partially) and Shostka district. Energy crews are working to restore power supplies.

Ukrzaliznytsia confirmed that the strikes caused infrastructure damage and outages in Sumy Oblast. The rail company prepared reserve diesel locomotives to keep trains running.

Several trains are delayed:

  • No. 779/780 Kyiv–Sumy (+2 h 57 m)

  • No. 787/788 Kyiv–Shostka (+1 h 05 m)

  • No. 773/774 Shostka–Kyiv (+3 h 30 m)

  • No. 143/144 Sumy–Lviv (+1 h 40 m).

Konotop District Administration reported that more than 18,000 customers in Krolevets community and 719 customers in Popivka community remain without power.

Shostka Mayor Mykola Noha said the city has activated backup power sources for socially crucial facilities, hospitals, and water supply and sewage systems. Emergency work to restart the system is ongoing.

Sumy Regional Governor Oleh Hryhorov said Russian forces continued to attack civilian infrastructure on Oct. 1.

In the Sumy district, two women aged 52 and 66 were injured in a drone strike.

In the Shalyhyne community, a Russian drone hit a moped driven by a 55-year-old man, who was hospitalized with injuries.
