Zelenskyy was speaking at a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron after a summit of the so-called “coalition of the willing” concluded in Paris.
“Among the security guarantees we see is membership in the European Union,” the Ukrainian president said.
“For us, these are essential economic, political and geopolitical security guarantees. Therefore, in our approach to security guarantees, this is an important point that is listed separately.”
The Paris summit included over 30 countries, 26 of which have agreed to contribute troops or other tangible assets towards guaranteeing Ukraine’s security as soon as a peace deal is reached.
On Aug. 21, Zelenskyy asked U.S. President Donald Trump to urge Hungarian PM Viktor Orbán stop blocking Kyiv’s EU accession process. On May 13, Bloomberg reported that the EU was exploring ways to prevent Budapest from stalling the start of accession talks with Ukraine.
