The Exilenova+ monitoring Telegram channel reported that drones had targeted a refinery in the city.
Videos published online showed several fires burning across Ufa. The city is home to three major oil refineries, although it remains unclear which facility was struck, Exilenova+ said.
Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency, Rosaviatsiya, temporarily restricted arrivals and departures at Ufa airport on the morning of Aug. 1 because of the drone threat.
Local Telegram channels also reported explosions in the city.
Russian air defenses allegedly intercepted 274 drones overnight across 16 Russian regions and Russian-occupied Crimea, Russia’s Defense Ministry said.
Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck a refinery in Ufa on July 1. The facility, located about 1,300 kilometers, or 810 miles, from the front line, is one of Russia’s largest producers of lubricants.
