Explosions were reported in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Qatar after the United States and Israel carried out strikes on Iran, Al Jazeera reported on March. 1.

Explosions were heard in the morning in Dubai, in Manama, the capital of Bahrain, and in Doha, the capital of Qatar.

Witnesses in Doha said they heard several loud blasts and saw thick black smoke rising in the southern part of the city.

Shortly afterward, explosions were again heard in Dubai. Plumes of white smoke from intercepted missiles were visible in the sky over the city, while dark smoke was seen over the Jebel Ali Port.

Explosions were also reported in Manama. According to witnesses, at least four loud blasts were heard.

The explosions followed a day of similar Iranian strikes on U.S. military bases and other targets in the Persian Gulf.

U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran

On Feb. 28, 2026, Israel and the United States announced strikes on Iran — operations dubbed “Roaring Lion” by Israel and “Epic Fury” by the United States.

Multiple explosions were reported in Tehran and a number of other major Iranian cities. Media reports said the attacks targeted the residences of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian, as well as Iran’s military and nuclear facilities.

Satellite imagery showed that Khamenei’s palace was completely destroyed.

In response, Iran launched ballistic missiles at Israel. Iranian missiles also struck Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Jordan, with reports of strikes on U.S. military bases.

Saudi Arabia strongly condemned the Iranian attacks on the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and Jordan. The Foreign Ministry said the kingdom is ready to make all its capabilities available for “any measures” that may be taken in response to Iran’s actions.

Reuters initially reported that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was not in Tehran at the time of the joint U.S.-Israeli strike and had been moved to a secure location.

The agency later cited a senior Israeli official as saying Khamenei was dead and that his body had been found.

Israeli journalist Amit Segal said Khamenei was “almost certainly dead” and that members of his family were also killed. Segal said the strike on Khamenei’s residence was carried out by Israel — not the United States — and involved 30 bombs.

Later, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed on Truth Social that Iran’s supreme leader had been killed in Israeli and U.S. strikes.

Trump said Khamenei’s death represented “the greatest chance for the Iranian people to reclaim their country.”

He added that “intense and targeted bombardments” of Iran would continue for a week or “as long as necessary to achieve our goal.”
