Explosions rocked temporarily occupied Crimea overnight on October 12, as local residents reported a drone attack, according to local monitoring channels.

Explosions and gunfire erupted in Yevpatoria and the Simferopol region, with residents also reporting a series of blasts near the Hvardiiske airbase.

Russian occupation authorities have not commented on the attack or reported on the extent of the damage.

Satellite images released on October 6 showed that the Chonhar road bridge, which connects occupied Crimea with occupied Kherson Oblast, has been destroyed.

Local monitoring groups reported on October 1 that a strike targeted an electrical substation in Nyzhnohirskyi in Russian-occupied Crimea, causing widespread power and water outages across parts of the peninsula.

An analysis published by NV on August 29 revealed that sustained Ukrainian airstrikes have crippled occupied Crimea's power grid, leaving the peninsula with only about a quarter of the electricity generation capacity it needs for the upcoming winter.

Crimea’s power demand typically peaks at 1,780 megawatts in January. If the Balaklava thermal power plant remains offline and power transmissions from Russia's Kuban region stay unstable, the Tavriiska plant – with a capacity of roughly 470 megawatts – will be the peninsula’s only major large-scale power source. According to NV's analysis of open-source data, this combined with smaller backup units would cover less than half of Crimea's winter energy needs.
