In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Fedorov acknowledged major challenges associated with holding wartime elections: ensuring active-duty troops can vote, along with millions of Ukrainians abroad and those living in frontline areas.
He said holding elections will require guaranteeing the security of the voting process, ensuring the independence of state institutions, and restoring public confidence in election results.
“What if the war lasts another year, or two, or three — does Russia then effectively hold the right to determine when Ukrainians can once again choose their government?” Fedorov said.
“I am convinced otherwise. Democracy cannot be Russia’s
hostage. We are fighting precisely because we want to remain a European
country.”
