Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov plans to visit the U.S. to raise funds for new defense technology projects, including an investment fund, but has no meeting planned with SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, Reuters reported on Aug. 21.

The source denied earlier media reports that Fedorov was seeking political support for a potential election campaign.

According to the source, Fedorov will not meet with politicians or government officials during his visit to the United States.

“Fedorov plans to launch a number of projects related to the war and Ukrainian startups,” Reuters quoted the source as saying.

One of the projects will be an investment fund, the source said.

Fedorov has close ties with U.S. companies including SpaceX and Palantir, Reuters noted.

The source said the former minister continues to hold talks with Elon Musk about Starlink, but no meeting between them is currently scheduled.

On Aug. 19, The Kyiv Independent reported that Fedorov could travel to the United States as early as the following week. The Guardian, meanwhile, suggested that the visit could be related to seeking support in Washington over the issue of holding elections in Ukraine.

On Aug. 20, Fedorov’s team confirmed his planned trip to the United States.

“The main purpose of the potential planned trip is to attract resources for new defense tech projects,” the former minister’s team said.
