Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said he had an "open and frank discussion" with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during which they discussed issues on which their positions align as well as areas of disagreement on June 19.

The leaders discussed issues on which they share "common views" as well as topics where their positions differ, Fico said.

"Slovakia will continue to defend and promote its national interests. At the same time, I believe it is appropriate to maintain an objective, constructive and respectful dialogue with all our partners," the Slovak prime minister wrote.

On the evening of June 18, Zelenskyy said that during his meeting with Fico in Brussels, they discussed Ukraine's European integration, energy cooperation and the outcomes of the G7 summit in Evian. The two leaders also talked about peace negotiations and a new round of intergovernmental consultations between Ukraine and Slovakia. Zelenskyy invited Fico to visit Ukraine.

Zelenskyy and Fico last met on the sidelines of the European Political Community summit in Yerevan on May 4. During that meeting, they discussed bilateral cooperation in various fields and the exchange of visits to Kyiv and Bratislava.

Earlier on June 18, Fico announced plans to meet Zelenskyy ahead of the European Council summit and said that Ukraine's EU accession process would be among the main topics of discussion.
