General Staff confirms downing of one Russian fighter jet

Ukraine's General Staff has confirmed the destruction of one Russian Su-34 fighter jet on Jan. 29.

The data released showoed that as of the morning of Jan. 29, Russia has lost a total of 435 aircraft in its full-scale war against Ukraine since Feb. 24, 2022.

On Jan. 28, Andrii Kovalenko, head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, stated that Russia had lost both a Su-30 and a Su-34 aircraft. He did not provide further details.

Prior to that, Russian propagandist Kirill Fedorov and the aviation-linked propaganda channel Fighterbomber had hinted at the loss of a Su-34 fighter-bomber.

According to the AviVector channel, a Su-34 crashed in Russia’s Kursk Oblast due to a technical malfunction, killing the crew.

Ukrainian monitoring channels later reported that Russia lost a Su-30 on the southern axis.
