Germany to provide Ukraine with 4k cutting-edge AI-powered attack drones — Bild

Ukraine is expected to receive the first drones within the next few weeks, with mass deliveries of several hundred units per month starting in December.

Helsing, active in Ukraine since 2022, specializes in advanced defense technology and secured an order in September 2024 to produce 4,000 AI-equipped attack drones for Ukraine. Founded in 2021, the company has also contributed to modernizing Germany's Eurofighter electronic warfare systems, AI infrastructure for the Future Combat Air System, and various naval and ground projects.

The funding came under a modernization program initiated by the German federal government.

“I am very pleased that the delivery of these AI-powered drones is starting right now,” Pistorius said.

These drones are capable of targeting "high-priority Russian military objectives, such as command centers or logistical facilities."

“They independently analyze the territory, recognize their location based on thousands of markers, and help operators stay on course even under adverse weather conditions or in bombarded areas," a defense industry source told Bild.

"Once a target is identified, the drone autonomously navigates to the destination.”

Dubbed "mini-Taurus," these drones have a range four times greater than kamikaze drones previously used in Ukraine and reportedly possess sufficient explosive power to destroy Russian tanks.

Germany’s Vice Chancellor and Minister of Economics, Robert Habeck, a candidate for Chancellor post from the Green Party, promised to supply Ukraine with Taurus missiles if elected to replace current Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
