22-year-old barista caught planning attacks on Kyiv's thermal plant

"He was identified as a 22-year-old barista from Vinnytsia who adjusted enemy fire and committed arson," the SBU press service reported.

The investigation showed the agent collected information about one of Kyiv's TPPs, which the aggressor state planned to attack during a combined strike using missile systems and kamikaze drones.

The agent also attempted to locate radar stations of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Kyiv, particularly over thermal power stations, law enforcement officials said.

"In addition to carrying out enemy assignments in Kyiv Oblast, the traitor attempted to set fire to transformer substations on railway infrastructure in Vinnytsia Oblast. SBU military counterintelligence identified the offender, documented his crimes, and detained him as he tried to set a transformer ablaze," the report said.

The suspect was remotely recruited by Russian military intelligence (GRU) in October, SBU added. His mobile phone containing an anonymous messaging app chat used to report to his Russian handler was seized during searches.

SBU investigators have charged the agent under Part 2 of Article 111 of Ukraine's Criminal Code for high treason committed under martial law. He faces a potential life sentence with confiscation of property.
