Information about possible casualties and the extent of the damage is still being clarified.
On Dec. 30, Viacheslav Chaus, Chernihiv governor, announced the mandatory evacuation of 14 border villages.
“At a meeting of the Defense Council, a decision was made to carry out mandatory evacuation from 14 border villages," Chaus said.
"This concerns the Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, Snovsk, and Horodnia municipalities.”
Russian forces shell the border areas every day, yet around 300 civilians still remain in these settlements despite the constant threat.
On the night of Dec. 30, Russian drones also struck energy infrastructure facilities in Chernihiv and Nizhyn districts. As a result, a significant number of residents were left without electricity.
On Dec. 25, a Russian drone hit a five-story residential building in the city of Chernihiv. One woman was killed and ten people were injured in that attack.
