Despite constant attacks, Russian forces failed to establish full control over the settlement of Huliaipole in Zaporizhzhya Oblast as Ukrainian troops are detecting and eliminating Russian assault groups, Southern Defense Forces wrote on Dec. 31.

They clarified that combat operations in this sector are ongoing.

“Our units continue to identify and destroy Russian assault groups and conduct strike-and-search operations. The fight continues,” the military said and released footage showing strikes against Russian occupiers in the Huliaipole area.

On Dec. 29, analysts from the DeepState project reported that Russian forces advanced in Myrnohrad and near Huliaipole.

On Dec. 28, the Southern Defense Forces said that Huliaipole and Stepnohirsk were partially under Russian control and that the situation there was difficult, but fighting for the towns was ongoing.

On Dec. 27, Ukraine’s General Staff refuted Russian claims about the capture of Huliaipole, Myrnohrad, and Pokrovsk. The statement emphasized that Russian forces failed to implement plans to seize the Pokrovsk–Myrnohrad urban area.

Andrii Kovalenko, head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, said Russian claims of control over Myrnohrad, Huliaipole, and Stepnohirsk were disinformation aimed exclusively at Western audiences.

Reports emerged earlier that Russian forces seized one of the command posts in Huliaipole along with documents and equipment. Ukraine’s Defense Forces commented that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
