Ukrainian forces advance in Russia’s Kursk Oblast amid Russian claims of new border assaults

The Ukrainian troops have advanced in the western part of a salient in Kursk Oblast amid ongoing fighting in the area. Geolocated footage published on Oct. 21 indicates that Ukrainian forces have moved forward in the western part of the village of Novoivanovka, southeast of Korenevo.

The Ukrainian army allegedly tried to cross the international border near the village of Volfyne, in the Glushkivsky District of Kursk Oblast, southwest of Glushkovo, Russian so-called military bloggers claimed at the same time. They also wrote that Ukrainian troops have deployed additional reserves near the Kruhlenkoe-Nikolske line, northwest of Sudzha and southeast of Korenevo, from which they launched an attack with two mechanized company tactical groups.

The Russian forces in Kursk Oblast are now comprised with units from the 106th Airborne Division, the 83rd Separate Airborne Brigade, the 56th Airborne Regiment, and the 155th Marine Brigade,The ISW highlighted.

The Russian Black Wolves medical unit has been recently redeployed from the Bakhmut front to Kursk.

Russian sources, meanwhile, are attempting to justify the slow pace of their progress in the region by falsely portraying it as an exceptionally challenging front. For instance, a commander of the Chechen Akhmat special forces claimed that fighting in Kursk Oblast is highly intense, and that the area is allegedly the most difficult section of the entire battlefield, where Russian forces are supposedly facing 14 Ukrainian brigades and "Western private military companies."
