Nation25 September, 12:07 PM
Romanian military forces scrambled two F-16 fighter jets on the morning of September 25 after radar systems detected an airborne target moving 20 kilometers east of Galați County, according to a statement from the Romanian Ministry of Defense.
The fighter jets took off from Borcea's 86th Air Base to monitor the situation.
The National Military Command Center coordinated with emergency services to issue public safety warnings across eastern Galați County and northern Tulcea County, sending emergency cell phone alerts to local residents at 3:27 a.m.
The all-clear for both counties was sounded at 4:14 a.m.
Officials reported no incursions into Romanian airspace during the incident.
The latest alert follows a separate incident on the morning of September 24, when a drone crashed in Romania’s Suceava County, forcing schools across four towns to suspend classes amid threats of further strikes.
