Russian forces are attacking heat generation facilities in Kherson in an attempt to leave the city without heating during winter, one civilian was killed, Kherson governor Oleksandr Prokudin reported on Jan. 2.

Russian forces have been striking one of Kherson’s heat generation facilities since the morning.

As a result of the attacks, disruptions to heating supply are possible across the city, he said.

Prokudin stressed that Russian troops are deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure in an effort to deprive Kherson residents of heat in the winter.

“This is deliberate terror against civilians,” the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration said.

He also reported that Russian forces shelled the Dniprovskyi district of the city, killing a 51-year-old man.

On the evening of Jan. 1, a Russian drone struck an ambulance crew that was responding to a call in the Dniprovskyi district. The driver was injured and the vehicle was damaged.

Earlier on Jan. 1, it was reported that a Russian drone dropped an explosive device in the same district, injuring two civilians — a 40-year-old woman and a 52-year-old man. Both were hospitalized with blast injuries and shrapnel wounds to their legs and are in moderate condition.
