The next round of trilateral negotiations on Ukraine is scheduled for next week, though, the exact date of the meeting has not yet been determined.
Peskov claimed that the negotiation process on Ukraine is “a long road” and that “a great deal of work” still lies ahead. He argued that expecting quick or high-impact results from the trilateral contacts could be a mistake, although he described the very fact that the talks are taking place as positive from Moscow’s perspective.
Peskov reiterated the Kremlin’s demands regarding the so-called “Anchorage formula” on territorial issues, claiming that without its implementation there would be no rapid progress in the talks.
Trilateral negotiations between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia aimed at ending the war took place in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) on Jan. 23–24. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the talks were constructive, adding that discussions focused primarily on possible parameters for ending the war.
U.S. officials said the trilateral talks “exceeded expectations,” describing the atmosphere as “very optimistic, positive, and constructive.” According to media reports, no decisions on territorial issues were made, although some progress was achieved in discussions on military-related matters.
U.S. President’s Special Envoy Steven Witkoff said the negotiations will continue next week. Axios wrote that the next meeting could take place on Feb. 1.
