U.S. President Donald Trump asked Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to refrain from striking Kyiv — but only until Feb. 1, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov claimed, Interfax-Russia propaganda agency wrote on Jan. 30.
Peskov confirmed that Trump had made a personal request to Putin “to refrain for one week — until Feb. 1 — from launching strikes on Kyiv.”
“In order to create favorable conditions for holding negotiations,” Peskov added.
When asked to clarify whether Feb. 1 itself was included in the timeframe of the requested pause, the Kremlin spokesperson replied: “Until Feb. 1.”
At the same time, Peskov declined to say whether Putin agreed to Trump’s request, or whether the alleged restraint concerned all strikes or only attacks on energy infrastructure.
