After the Russian attack on Kyiv on Aug. 28, 877 people sought assistance for injuries or property damage, and recovery efforts continue at two sites in the Darnytskyi district, Kyiv City Military Administration head Tymur Tkachenko said on Aug. 29.

According to him, a headquarters was set up at the site of the main damage in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district to coordinate recovery work across the city.

“The consequences are significant, and utility workers continue inspections. More than 5,400 broken windows have been confirmed so far. About 2,500 have been covered with film and sheets, and the damage is being documented,” Tkachenko said.

He added that 23 families need temporary housing, 21 of them in Darnytskyi district, but accommodations are available: two families will move into a dormitory, and others are considering additional options. Tkachenko also announced monthly payments of 40,000 ($960) and 20,000 hryvnias ($480) for affected families.

He said Kyivgaz has been instructed to restore services on Boryspilska Street, where a Russian missile destroyed the entrance of a high-rise building. Kyivavtodor is repairing roads in Holosiivskyi district, and DTEK is restoring power to the Azerbaijani Embassy, also damaged in the attack.

Large-scale attack on Kyiv on Aug. 28
On the night of Aug. 28, Kyiv came under a massive Russian attack using Shaheds, Gerbers, cruise and ballistic missiles, including Kinzhals.

Powerful explosions were reported across the city, with damage recorded at more than 20 locations. About 100 structures were damaged, and the entrance of a high-rise residential building in Darnytskyi district was destroyed.

According to the State Emergency Service, 23 people were killed, including four children, and up to 10 people may still be trapped under rubble.

The British Council and the EU representative office were also damaged. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha said Russian strikes targeted diplomatic facilities, a direct violation of the Vienna Convention.
