As international
talks around ending Russia’s war on Ukraine continue, a senior presidential
adviser has acknowledged that Ukraine may consider freezing the conflict along
current front lines as one potential scenario.
“If we’re being
realistic — yes," he admitted.
"One
possible scenario is a freeze along the front line. And the president has
spoken about this.”
Podolyak stressed
that any final decision regarding the end of hostilities will be made by
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He added that consultations continue at the
level of the Ukrainian presidency and European leaders, who, he said, have a
clear understanding of the risks posed by Russia.
According to
Podolyak, there’s also a “decent negotiation process” underway with Washington.
He suggested that following the military parade in Beijing and the summit in
Tianjin, the United States might now view the situation more realistically and
push for a fairer end to the war.
Zelenskyy stands firm on territorial integrity
Earlier, amid
rumors of possible territorial swaps with Russia, President Zelenskyy
reiterated that Ukraine’s territorial integrity is enshrined in its
Constitution — no one will retreat from that position. He has consistently
rejected any proposal that could reward Russia for its war of aggression.
“Any territorial
concession by Ukraine would become a bridgehead for further Russian aggression
across Europe,” Zelenskyy warned.
On Sept. 3, Zelenskyy also mentioned the “Korean scenario” as a potential endgame — where, like South Korea, Ukraine could focus on building long-term economic success without a formal peace treaty with the aggressor state.
