Russian missile strike damages mosque in Kyiv's Nyvky district

The Russian missile strike severely damaged a mosque in Kyiv's Nyvky district, Refat Chubarov, the head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, wrote on Facebook early on Sept. 2.

"A massive missile strike by Russian barbarians on Kyiv caused significant damage to the building of the Spiritual Center of the Muslims of Crimea (DCMK) - the mosque in Nyvky," Chubarov wrote.

The cultural center, particularly the mosque, now requires restoration, he added.

No casualties were reported after the missile strike, Suleiman Khairullaev, Deputy Mufti of Crimean Muslims and military chaplain, reported.

Russian missile strike on Kyiv on Sept. 2

About two dozen of cruise and ballistic missiles and one attack drone were shot down during the massive early morning Russian attack on Kyiv with falling debris causing fires and damage in Holosiivskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, and Shevchenkovskyi districts.

Preliminary reports indicated at least two injured. Cars caught fire, and non-residential buildings were damaged. 

Air defense intercepted and destroyed over a dozen cruise missiles, one strike drone, and about ten ballistic missiles.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported fires in several Kyiv's districts - one emerged near the entrance to a metro station, missile debris struck the boiler room in an educational institution.
