A Kyiv court has sentenced a 21-year-old student to 15 years in prison with property confiscation for high treason after he was found guilty of collecting intelligence for Russia and helping coordinate missile and drone strikes on the city, the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office said on May 30.

A 21-year-old Kyiv resident has received a real prison sentence for spying on Ukrainian military facilities on behalf of Russian intelligence, Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) and prosecutors confirmed.

According to the prosecution, during July–August 2024, the defendant received money and instructions via Telegram from Russian handlers to collect and transmit coordinates of military installations in Kyiv. Targets included the Ministry of Defense, the Ground Forces headquarters, the 3rd Infantry Brigade, and other units.

The man photographed and filmed facilities, noted the presence of personnel and equipment, and sent detailed reports to his FSB contact.

The SBU identified him as a member of an FSB spy network that was dismantled in fall 2024. At that time, SBU cyber units arrested three Russian agents involved in coordinating missile and drone strikes on Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv.

The defendant was caught “red-handed” near a military site while conducting surveillance. His phone, containing incriminating evidence, was confiscated at the scene.
